SCARF, HAND PAINTED ON SILK - Bird of Paradise - Ella Dabek Art

Silk painting really stole my heart. I started to paint scarves a few years ago wtih the intention of painting just a few for my family, friends and myself. I loved to watch how the colors blend together. I wanted to know the process better. So I went to NYC for a workshop. And that is how I started.

My process:

I use wooden frames to stretch the silk. First, I hand draw the design and outline it with water soluble resist. After that I paint and blend the colors and let them flow. When I am done painting, I use iron to set the colors in and wash it and then iron it again. Length of the process depends on the complicity of the design.
